Grand National

not like i'm averse to a flutter but in 6 years, always noticed the buzz around grand national weekend but never participated until my time here in wilkinson eyre. £1 a horse and we got to partake in a lucky dip for a punt. colnel rayburn - no, not a typo - just a badly named horse with a misspelling. like the independent predicted it'll never win and would be "a disgrace to have a misspelt name engraved on the trophy" - and it didn't. at odds of 33-1, numbersixvalverde crossed the finish line first. noone in the team, now at work on a saturday, had that horse to his name although all are claiming it.

work on a saturday? novelty of novelties, we're actually getting paid for it as we're chasing a (chinese) deadline. and we got sushi lunch ordered in for us yesterday and a top drawer italian lunch bought in from the deli by the boss himself. it was fantastic - wine, fresh italian food and cheese in the sun on the office terrace. it almost made coming in on a weekend worthwhile.

united great part 7088. football rant part 62.

this is from football365
[MiddlesbroughSeven of their players for the win at Citeh were graduates of the Boro Youth Academy.]

credit
and who set up the academy there to put the foundations in place for what is now becoming a nearly successful production line for premiership first-teamers? stewart downing, james morrison, lee cattermole (unproven but scored last weekend's winner), a few defenders ...
none other than the great bryan robson - there for five years but lost the chairman's faith at the last ... they should make a public announcement of gratitude if not an apology for letting him go in such circumstances and on hindsight, for letting him down. they're reaping the benefits of it now so they should also give credit where it is due.
