CELEBRITY?
3 months ago, i brushed past ricky gervais at tottenham court road. he was in very unglamorous sweats but wearing that trademark aloofness on his face.
1 year and a bit ago, i went to my friend's apartment for a lovely party. hussein chalayan lived there for years when he was still at central st martin's college of art and design. i just looked at his photo again. i wouldn't recognise him if i met him on the street.
jacques herzog is such a star. and he supposedly gave a 'commanding performance' at the union chapel in islington recently. presumably with that trademark snarl on his face, the one he's worn since before he was global superstar - just a featured architect in an elcroquis monograph. he supposedly hates 'celebrity' but why that snarl? disdain for every journalist that has ever had to take his picture to be pasted on every publication? or a trademark like rem's upward stare towards the light above him, only replicable and always his?
better start practicinge my smile. or not.
